Local Players Highlight Additions To Volleyball

EUGENE, Ore. - The University of Oregon volleyball program has added five players to its 2003 recruiting class, Oregon head coach Carl Ferreira announced today.

Erin Little (6-1, OH, Victoria, B.C.) is the fourth player to sign a letter of intent with the Ducks for the upcoming season while Allyson Leavitt (5-9, DS, Springfield), Kandice Feola (5-7, DS, Creswell), Kim McNally (6-0, MB, Gresham) and Callan Janowiec (5-7, S/DS, Juneau, Alaska) will also join the 2003 squad.

'Erin is a very solid all around player,' Ferreira said. 'She comes in with the ability to make an instant impact. Erin has a superior mind set and is a very quick player. The addition of these players gives us depth and diversity and we are very pleased to get players from the state of Oregon like Allyson [Leavitt] and Kandice [Feola].'

Little, a member of the British Columbia Provincial Juvenile Team, was selected to the first all star team at the Island Tournament Championships as Mount Douglas high school placed fourth at the Provincial Championships. As a junior, Little earned all-tournament all-star accolades for her play on the British Columbia Provincial Juvenile team.

'I wanted to play volleyball in Pac 10 against the some of the best collegiate volleyball players in North America with some of the best collegiate volleyball players,' Little said. 'I know that the Ducks are rebuilding and I like the winning attitude and strong work ethic of the players and the coaches that are with this young team.'

Leavitt, a first-team all-league selection in 2002 was also named team Most Valuable Player at Thurston high school. She earned second-team all-league honors as a junior and was an honorable mention all-state her senior year. McNally lettered four years in volleyball, three years in track and one year in basketball at Centennial high school, earning honorable mention all-conference accolades two times in her career.

Janowiec was the Alaska Gatorade Player of the Year last season, becoming the second Gatorade Player of the Year recruited by Ferreira. Feola was a second-team all-tournament selection at the 2002 3A state championships as Creswell finished fifth.

The Ducks open the 2003 season at the University of North Carolina Tournament Aug. 29-30.
