OSU'S Steven Jackson Selected Preseason All-American

CORVALLIS-Oregon State junior tailback Steven Jackson continues to pile up preseason accolades, with the latest being selected as a preseason All-American by The Sporting News.

Jackson, the leading rusher in the Pac-10 last year, has been selected second team All-American by The Sporting News in the magazine's 2003 College Football Yearbook. He is listed as the fourth best running back in the nation by The Sporting News.

Jackson rushed for 1,690 yards in 2002, an Oregon State record and sixth best one-season mark in Pac-10 history.

Jackson has also been selected as a first-team preseason All-American by College FootballNews. The same publication picked Beaver wide receiver James Newson as an honorable mention preseason All-American.

Athlon Magazine has selected Jackson as a first-team preseason All-American. In addition, Athlon named Newson third-team All-American. Athlon also named Jackson, Newson and Richard Seigler first-team All-Pac-10 and Dwan Edwards second-team All-Pac-10. The magazine rated OSU's running backs the best in the Pac-10 and the Beaver linebackers the second best in the Pac-10.

Athlon rated Oregon State 16th in the nation in its preseason top 25 poll.Sports Illustrated.com also lists Jackson No. 7 on its list of top 10 preseason Heisman Trophy candidates.

The Sporting News ranked OSU tight end Tim Euhus as the 19th best tight end in the country and Seigler as the ninth best middle linebacker.
