Parker, Willis Selected To Academic All-District Team

UCLA senior gymnasts Kristin Parker (Hanford, CA/Hanford HS) and Onnie Willis (Tacoma, WA/Wilson HS) were selected for the third consecutive year to the Verizon Academic All-District VIII Women's At-Large Second Team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
Parker, a sociology major with a 3.766 gpa, is a three-time National Association of College Gymnastics Coaches (NACGC) Scholastic All-American and Pac-10 All-Academic first-team selection. A four-time All-American, she holds the school record on the floor exercise with a perfect 10.
Willis, a sociology major with a 3.668 gpa, is a two-time NACGC Scholastic All-American, Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports Scholar and first-team Pac-10 All-Academic honoree and was awarded the 2003 Honda Sports Award as the nation's top female gymnast. This past season, she earned four All-America honors to give her 16 in her career, a new school record. In 2001, Willis became UCLA's first-ever NCAA all-around champion.
Both gymnasts were recently granted NCAA post-graduate scholarships.
In order to be eligible for Academic All-District honors, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale), must be a starter or important reserve and be in at least their second season at their current school. District VIII includes schools in the states of Alaska, Arizona, California, Hawaii, Idaho, Nevada, Oregon, Utah, Washington and British Columbia. The at-large category includes student-athletes in the following women's sports: crew, gymnastics, skiing, fencing, ice hockey, swimming, water polo, field hockey, lacrosse, tennis, golf and rifle.
