Cougar Tennis Adds Player

May 29, 2003

PULLMAN, Wash. -- Nelly Dvornicka has signed a National Letter of Intent for women's tennis, Cougar Head Coach Cari Groce announced Thursday.

Dvornicka, a native of Duchov in the Czech Republic, won 71 percent of her matches in high school while attending Gymnazium Duchov.

'We are so happy Nelly put off her signing or we would have missed out on her to another school,' Groce said. 'We spent the last year recruiting her heavily, and know her athleticism on the court is going to be a very big asset to our team.'

Groce added, 'She is one of the most athletic players we have ever recruited. With the implementation of our strength program, the Pac-10 tennis schedule and a strong daily practice regimen, she will help add the missing ingredient we need to get back to the NCAA Tournament.'

She is the first player in WSU's tennis history to hail from the Czech Republic. Fourteen other countries have produced letter winners for the Cougars.
