Reichmann, Inman Earn Academic All-District Honors

June 2, 2003

SEATTLE - Fresh off of top-six finishes at last weekend's NCAA West Regional Track and Field Championships, Husky seniors Courtney Inman and Heather Reichmann were named Monday to Verizon's Academic All-District VIII second-team for track and field and cross-country.

The honor is the first for Inman, who was named second-team Academic All-Pac-10 in both track and field and cross country during the 2002 calendar year. The Abbotsford, B.C., native has earned a 3.42 grade-point average in business administration while running roughshod through the Washington and Pac-10 record books.

The seventh-ranked 1,500-meter runner in Pac-10 history, Inman qualified for next week's NCAA Championships with a third-place finish in the event at last weekend's NCAA West Regional meet at Stanford. In 2003 alone, the senior has lowered Washington records indoors in the 800-meter and mile runs, and owns UW's second-fastest marks all-time outdoors at 800- and 1,500 meters. Currently, Inman ranks second in the Athletics Canada's rankings of the fastest Canadian women's 1,500-meter runners in 2003, and is Canada's third-ranked runner at 800 meters.

Joining Inman on the Verizon Academic All-District VIII second-team is Reichmann, who is currently boasts a 3.75 grade-point average in Washington's master's teaching program. A four-year letterwinner for the UW basketball team, Reichmann graduated in 2002 with a degree in health education, completing her undergraduate studies with a 3.73 GPA.

A second-team Academic All-Pac-10 selection in 2002, Reichmann increased her own school record in the javelin this season to 159 feet, 2 inches, and last month earned her fourth-consecutive top-10 finish in the event at the Pac-10 Championships. The seventh-place javelin competitor at last weekend's NCAA West Regional, Reichmann will have to wait until Wednesday to learn if she is headed for her first-ever NCAA Championships as one of six-to-eight provisional qualifiers in the javelin.

Last week, senior pole vaulter Brad Walker was named to Verizon's Academic All-District VIII first-team, placing him on the ballot for Academic All-America honors. The 2003 Verizon Academic All-America teams will be announced June 17.
