Bowlby Named Outstanding Wrestler

CORVALLIS, Ore. - Oregon State handed out four team awards at its annual year-end wrestling banquet Sunday afternoon at the Valley Football Center.

Senior heavyweight Andy Bowlby (Newberg, Ore./Newberg HS) earned the Most Outstanding Wrestler award. Bowlby went 26-9 with 13 pins, tied for the 23rd-highest single-season pin total in OSU history. He placed third in the Pacific-10 Championships.

Senior 174-pounder Jake Huffman (Scio, Ore./Scio HS) earned the Chad Flack Award as OSU's most-improved wrestler. Huffman went 24-13 with 3 pins and placed third in the Pacific-10 Championships. The previous season, Huffman had gone 14-5 in a backup role.

Freshman 149-pounder Tony Hook (Sandpoint, Ida./Sandpoint HS) earned the Outstanding Newcomer award. Hook went 18-14 with 4 pins and placed fifth at the Pacific-10 Championships.

Junior 165/184-pounder Jed Pennell (Cave Junction, Ore./Illinois Valley HS) earned the Academic Excellence Award. Carrying a 3.83 grade point average while majoring in Exercise and Sport Science, Pennell earned Academic All-District VIII first team honors. He was named to the Pacific-10 All-Academic team for the third straight season, and Pennell also earned OSU's Academic Excellence award for the third straight season.
