Cal's David Esquer Selected as Trials Coach for USA National Team

DURHAM, NC - University of California head baseball coach David Esquer has been selected as one of the Trial Coaches for USA Baseball's 2003 National Team Trials to be held June 21-27 in Tucson, Arizona.
Esquer, who recently concluded his fourth season with the Golden Bears and was the 2001 Pac-10 Coach of the Year, will join Smoke Leval of Louisiana State as Trial Coaches in Tucson. Esquer and Leval will be assisting the National Team Coaching Staff of Ray Tanner (South Carolina), Dick Cooke (Davidson), Mark Scalf (UNC Wilmington) and Mike Weathers (Long Beach State) during the Trials process.
Thirty-four top collegiate players have been invited to the 2003 National Team Trials, including eight players from the Pacific-10 Conference. Cal's Conor Jackson, who was recently a first round draft pick of the Arizona Diamondbacks, was a member of the 2002 USA National Team that won a silver medal at the World Championships last summer.
