UCLA Bruin Update from the 2003 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships (Day 3)

Sacramento, CA - Third day results from the 2003 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships, held at Sacramento State's Hornet Stadium, in the A.G. Spanos Sports Complex. Art Venegas' Bruin men competed in the finals of three events. The Bruin men have scored 14.50 team points and are in 10th place. The meet concludes Saturday.

Pole Vault - In the final of the pole vault, sophomore Yoo Kim tied for fifth with USC's Jeffrey Ryan at 17-4.50 (5.30m). Kim scored 3.50 points for the Bruins. Junior Pat Luke placed seventh with a personal best vault of 17-4.50 (5.30m). Luke scored two points for the Bruins. Both Kim and Luke received their first All-America honor.
Long Jump - Junior Juaune Armon placed fifth with a jump of 25-10.25 (7.88m, +0.5). Armon scored four points for the Bruins and received his first All-America honor.
Shot Put - In the shot put, junior Dan Ames placed sixth, scoring three points, with a throw of 62-0.50 (18.91m). Senior Scott Wiegand placed seventh, scoring two points, with a throw of 61-9 (18.82m). Ames received his second outdoor shot put All-America honor (2003-02, seventh All-America honor overall). Wiegand also received his second outdoor shot put All-America honor (2003-02).
Saturday's Final - In the final day of competition, junior Dan Ames will compete in the discus final.
