OSU Puts 11 Women's Rowers On Academic All-Pac-10 Squads

A total of 11 Oregon State women's rowers were named to the Pacific-10 Conference All-Academic first and second teams, the conference announced Monday.
On the first team were Kathy Freeborn, Kim Hughes, Keelan Purcell and Lynn Simmons, while Tracy Colton, Amanda Florio, Natasha Nemyre, Kristen Reid, Kim Texeira, Kristin Tryon and Lyndsey Wrightson were tabbed for the second team.
Freeborn, (senior, Rickreall, Ore., Central HS), earned her third consecutive first-team pick, tallying a 3.85 grade-point average in Agriculture Business Management. She rowed in the junior varsity eight.
Simmons earned first-team recognition for the second year in a row, and was chosen second-team Verizon Academic All-District this year. Simmons (senior, Lakeview, Ore., Lakeview HS) carries a 3.96 GPA as a double-major in Agriculture Business Management and Ag and Resource Economics.She also earned Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association First-Team All-Region as a coxswain this year.
Purcell (sophomore, Newberg, Ore., Newberg HS), carries a 3.91 GPA in Biology and coxswained the junior varsity eight.
Hughes (senior, Vancouver, Wash., Evergreen HS) majored in Environmental Sciences and totaled a 3.41 GPA. She punched her second consecutive ticket to the first team, and was an honorable mention pick in 2001.
Reid, Texeira and Tryon each rowed in the varsity eight.
Reid (sophomore, Brentwood Bay, British Columbia, Stelly's Secondary) owned a 3.28 GPA as a Biology major, while Texeira (senior, Gresham, Ore., Gresham HS), posted a 3.34 in Psychology. Tryon (sophomore, Victoria, B.C., Stelly's Secondary) is a Business Management major with a 3.27 GPA.
Wrightson (senior, Hollis, N.H., Hollis/Brookline HS) compiled a 3.05 GPA in Liberal Studies, and rowed in the JV eight. Wrightson was an honorable mention academic all-conference pick in 2002, and a first-teamer in 2001.
Colton, (senior, Dallas, Ore., Dallas HS), carries a 3.18 in Psychology, and was joined in the JV eight by Florio, (sophomore, Niagara Falls, Ontario, E.L. Crossley HS) and Nemyre (sophomore, Canby, Ore., Canby HS). Florio has a 3.00 GPA in Exercise and Sport Science, andNemyre owns a 3.64 as a Business Administration major.
