OSU's Ellsbury Adds Another Honor

CORVALLIS, Ore. - Oregon State outfielder Jacoby Ellsbury collected another honor on Tuesday, being named to Baseball America magazine's Freshman All-America squad as a second-team selection. Ellsbury had earlier been named to the Louisville Slugger Freshman All-America team, which is selected by Collegiate Baseball newspaper.
Ellsbury (Madras, Ore./Madras HS) batted .330 with seven home runs, three triples, 10 doubles, 33 runs batted in, 56 runs scored and was 14-for-18 on stolen base attempts. He started all 53 games for the Beavers, including 30 in centerfield while Aaron Mathews was out of action before moving to rightfield at midseason.
Among the Pacific-10 leaders through the end of the regular season, Ellsbury was tied for fifth in hit by pitch (11); tied for seventh in stolen bases (14); and 10th in runs scored (56). Among OSU's all-time single-season leaders, he was second in runs (56) and tied for 10th in at-bats (206).
In the season's last 13 games, Ellsbury batted .434 (23-for-53) with five homers, one triple, three doubles, 12 RBIs, 17 runs and six stolen bases. After moving into the leadoff spot full-time on May 2, he led off the game by reaching base nine of 12 times (two homers, one double, four singles and two walks).
