June 18, 2003

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - Washington State's Donna Bell and Jay-Lee Longbottom earned Pacific-10 Conference Women's Golf All-Academic First Team accolades, as announced by Pac-10 Commissioner Tom Hansen, Wednesday.

WSU was the only school to place two student-athletes on the first team. It was also the first time in school history that the program had two representatives on the first team.

Bell capped her WSU career with her initial appearance on the first team. Bell, who carried a 3.52 GPA in decision sciences/management, had earned a second team selection in each of the previous two years. With a GPA of 3.94, incoming junior Longbottom garnered her first all-academic honor.

Incoming junior Kim Welch, who finished fifth at the NCAA Championships last month, added to her resume with an honorable mention selection to the team.

To be eligible for selection to the academic team, a student-athlete must have a minimum 3.0 grade point average and either be a starter or significant contributor.
