Four UCLA Golfers Earn Conference Academic Honors

Four UCLA golfers earned All-Pac-10 Academic honors, the Pacific-10 Conference announced Wednesday.
Travis Johnson (Bellflower,CA), Gina Umeck (Redlands, CA), Bridget Dwyer (Kailua, HI) and Melissa Martin (Altadena, CA) were each honored for their excellence in the classroom. Johnson and Umeck earned first-team honors, Dwyer was a second team selection and Martin earned honorable mention acclaim.
Johnson, a Sociology major with a minor in Policy Studies, boasts a 3.37 grade point average. He also earned Academic All-America honors from the Golf Coaches Assn. of America last month as well as All-America honors for finishing among the Top 20 at the NCAA Championships.
For Umeck, a three-time All-Pac-10 player, she earned first-team all-conference academic honors for the second straight year. She boasts a 3.50 gpa in Spanish and has earned mention on the Director's Honor Roll eight times.
Bridget Dwyer's selection to the all-academic team is her first. The fourth-year junior has earned a spot on the Director's Honor roll 11 times and boasts a 3.49 gpa in economics. She is a two-time participant in the U.S. Women's Amateur Championship.
Melissa Martin, who owns a 3.11 grade point average in Psychology, also earned her first selection this year to the all-conference academic team. She has been a member of the Director's Honor Roll six times.
All four players will be seniors for the 2003-04 academic year.
