Sal Vance Transfers

July 2, 2003

Corvallis, Ore. - Oregon State University men's basketball player Sal Vance has elected to transfer to a yet to be determined junior college, head basketball coach Jay John announced Wednesday.

Vance, a 6-7 guard/forward, played in five games last season as a reserve.

'Sal made a lot of improvement while he was in our program,' John said. 'People need to remember that he didn't play two years of high school basketball, so in reality he made huge strides on and off the floor.'

Vance came to Oregon State from Oakland Technical High School in California. As a junior he attended Lincoln High School in San Diego, where he averaged 16 points and 11 rebounds. Vance is a native of Philadelphia, Pa.

'Sal wants to play and he feels junior college is his best option right now,' John added. 'I totally support his decision and wish him the best. He has grown not only as an athlete at Oregon State University, but as a person as well.'

The departure of Vance leaves the program with 14 players on the current roster for the upcoming 2003-2004 season.
