Stanford's K.C. Corkery Captures Victory At Futures Of Auburn

AUBURN, Calif. - Stanford's K.C. Corkery (Manhattan Beach,CA)was able to effectively handle the competition en route to a winning the 2003 Futures Of Auburn tourney, a USTA Pro Circuit event. Corkery, the 11th seed, was able to secure an opening round victory against 12th seed Sam Warburg 6-4, 7-5.Corkery then defeated second round foe Rajeev Ram in 2-6, 6-3, 7-6 in three sets. The third round brought a match against, fellow Cardinal and doubles partner, James Pade (Woodside, CA. Corkery defeated him in three sets (6-1, 2-6, 6-4). The semi-final had Corkery moving past Stanford alum Ryan Haviland to earn a spot in the final round. In the final, Corkery was able to best David Martin 7-6, 6-2 to take the single's tourney.

In doubles action, Corkery, along with partner Pade, was able to advance all the way to the final before losing to the first seeded duo of John Paul Fruttero and Bobby Reynolds 6-4, 6-4.

In total, five, current or former, Cardinal competed in the tourney, including Corkery, Pade, Chris Marin, Ryan Haviland, and K.J. Hippensteel.

The Futures of Auburn tourney took place in Auburn, Ca from June 23-29, 2003.
