Polk Sees First Action with USA Young Women's Team

BOSTON (July 15) - University of Arizona women's basketball player Shawntinice Polk saw her first action with the USA World Championship for Young Women Team on Tuesday. The USA Young Women defeated the Brazil Young Women's Team, 82-61, in a 'friendly' game played Tuesday at Matthews Arena on the campus of Northeastern University in Boston, Mass.
Polk played 13 minutes off the bench for the USA Young Women, shooting 2-for-4 from the floor and tallying four points, three rebounds and one assist. Duke's Alana Beard led the way for the U.S. team with 17 points, while Kansas State's Kendra Wecker came off the bench for 15 points.
The USA Young Women's Team is in Boston to play a series of friendly games this week, gearing up for participation in the 2003 FIBA World Championship for Young Women, which will be held July 25-Aug. 12 in Sibenik, Croatia.
The squad will be in action again on Wednesday, July 16, facing the Australia Young Women's Team at 1 p.m. EDT.
