July 16, 2003
EUGENE, Ore. - Six non-conference postseason teams and two home tournaments highlight the 2003-04 University of Oregon women's basketball schedule, coach Bev Smith announced.
The Ducks open the regular season against 2003 NCAA Tournament qualifier Valparaiso in the Women's Sports Foundation Classic Nov. 15-16 at McArthur Court. The winner of that game would play either LSU or Villanova, both NCAA Tournament participants as well.
After a road trip to Gonzaga (Nov. 25), the Ducks will play host to the Oregon Classic, featuring Kansas (Nov. 28), N.C. State (Nov. 29) and Sacramento State, which is coached by former assistant Dan Muscatell.
Oregon plays two straight games in Portland, first against in-state rival Portland (Dec. 4) followed by Pap Jam opponent Colorado State (Dec. 6) at the Rose Garden. The Ducks' final out-of-conference home game is against Montana (Dec. 12). Oregon then heads off to play at Santa Clara (Dec. 16) and NCAA Tournament participant George Washington (Dec. 18). Pac-10 Conference play begins at California (Dec. 27).
Overall in non-conference action, the Ducks will play at least three teams who advanced to the NCAA Tournament last year as well as three WNIT squads (CSU, Montana, Santa Clara).
Oregon finished 12-15 and 8-10 in conference play last year. The Ducks return eight letterwinners, including four starters, along with seven newcomers.
