Momentum Turf Installation Well Underway
July 18, 2003
BERKELEY - Work is well underway on the installation of Sportsexe's Momentum Turf at Memorial Stadium this summer.
Earlier this week, workers began putting in the synthetic surfacing, with the first full roll being placed at the 50 yard line of the field. The crew will work out from the middle and complete the actual playing surface before proceeding to the perimeter areas of the field.
The new surface material will include permanent lines, marking and logos for football, some of which are currently visible. Once those tasks are complete, a blend of rubber and sand will be carefully spread, placed and broomed into the fibers to provide the finished resilient playing surface.
The Momentum Turf System is being installed by the specialized Sportexe staff under the direction of Robert A. Bothman Inc., which serves as general contractor for the project. Robert A. Bothman Inc., based in San Jose, is one of the region's leading sports field contractors. Bothman completed the field conversion at Memorial Stadium in 1995, and the renovation to the field and track at Edwards Stadium in 1999.
The Memorial Stadium project is on track to be completed by the first week of August, well in advance of the Bears home opener vs. Southern Mississippi on Aug. 30.
