STRONGSVILLE, OHIO -- Arizona State sophomore first baseman Jeff Larish hit a home run for the second straight day and shortstop Dustin Pedroia went 2-for-5 to help lead the USA Baseball National Team to a 6-3 victory over Northern Ohio on Friday Night.

Justin Verlander (RHP, So., Old Dominion) notched his fifth win of the summer and Huston Street (RHP, So., Texas) pitched two innings to record his sixth save. Team USA collected 12 hits on the night, including a home run from Larish (IF, So., Arizona State) while Verlander, Stephen Head (LHP/IF, Fr., Mississippi) and Street combined to allow just five hits as the Red, White & Blue improved to 19-0 on the summer.

Verlander worked six and two third innings allowing three runs and striking out six batters. Head closed out the seventh inning for Team USA before Street entered to complete the game. Street allowed just one hit, struck out four batters and extended his scoreless inning streak to 15 1/3 innings on the summer.

After a scoreless first inning, the USA broke open the scoring with three runs off Northern Ohio starter Eric Dworkis (Gonzaga). Larish picked up where he left off on Thursday evening with a solo home run to lead off the second and give USA a 1-0 lead. The homer marks the second consecutive game Larish has homered. Larish now leads Team USA in home runs with four this summer. The Red, White & Blue increased the lead to 3-0 on a two-out RBI single from Brent Lillibridge (OF, Fr., Washington) scoring Tyler Greene (IF, Fr., Georgia Tech) and Jeff Clement (C, So., USC).

Northern Ohio came back with two runs in the bottom half of the second cutting the deficit to one run. Nick Cadena had a RBI single for Northern Ohio and scored from third base on a two-out wild pitch by Verlander.

Team USA added a run in the third inning as Greene knocked a two-out bloop RBI single to left field scoring Danny Putnam (OF, So., Stanford). The two-run lead would be cut to one in the bottom half of the inning as Tom Caple opened the frame with a solo homer to right field.

The USA would score two more runs on the night as Head, also in the game as designated hitter, knocked a two-out RBI single in the sixth to score Greene and Eric Patterson (IF, So., Georgia Tech) collected a RBI groundout in the ninth as the USA built a three-run cushion.

Greene went 2-for-3 with a RBI and two runs scored and Lillibridge added two hits with two RBI as the USA won the second game of the four-game series with Northern Ohio. Each starting player in the Team USA lineup collected at least one hit on the night.

Team USA and Northern Ohio will continue the series on Saturday evening at 5 p.m. with Mark Romanczuk (3-0, 0.00 ERA, LHP, Stanford) scheduled to start for the Red, White & Blue. Each game of the four-game set with Northern Ohio is played at Mills Field. The Northern Ohio Baseball Club is a member of the Great Lakes Collegiate Baseball League. After the four-game series concludes, Team USA will face the Great Lakes All-Stars on Monday evening at Mills Field.
