Bruin Women Occupy Top Three Placings After First Round Of Trans National Championships

Santa Ana Pueblo, NM - With a field of 136 players which includes three past champions, UCLA senior Bridget Dwyer from Kailua, HI took only 68 strokes to cover the 6,450 yard Twin Warriors Golf Club during Monday's first round of the Women's TRANS National Amateur Championship and sits in first place after the first day.

Dwyer said the key to her round was 'smart coursemanagement' which resulted in six birdies and hitting all but one fairway.Dwyer said 'the greens are rolling true and fast' and the course setup wasperfect for her style of game. She has been having a good summer withquarterfinal finishes in both the Women's Western and the North-SouthChampionships.

Her Bruin teammates Melissa Martin and Hana Kim are close behind in a tie for second place with a 70. Yvonne Choe shot an 80, while Gina Umeck posted an 81. Defending Champion Courtney Woods is six strokes behind Dwyer with a 74. Ellen Port, the 1994 Champion, also posted a 74, and 1993 Champion Carol Semple Thompson had a 79.
