Tamir Named Top 50 Candidate for Wooden Award All-America Team

Aug. 6, 2003

BERKELEY - California senior center/forward Amit Tamir was selected one of the Top 50 Preseason Candidates for the 2003-04 Wooden Award All-America team by a national poll conducted by the Wooden Award Preseason Committee. The student-athletes, which are all returning players, have been chosen based on last year's performances and team records.

During the 2002-03 season, Tamir averaged 14.9 points and 6.5 rebounds per game, earning first team All-Pac-10 honors. As a team, the Bears recorded their third straight 20-win season (22-9) and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament.

Incoming freshmen and transfer students are not included, as these athletes and other players who excel throughout the season will be eligible for the Midseason Top 30 list and the national ballot.

In mid-January, the Wooden Award committee will release the Midseason Top 30 on CBS Sports. On Tuesday, March 30, 2004, the 10-player Wooden Award All-America team will be announced, and one member of the team will be picked on Saturday, April 10, 2004 as the recipient of the Wooden Award Trophy as the nation's Most Outstanding Collegiate Basketball Player of the Year. The event will be televised live from the Los Angeles Athletic Club on CBS. For more information, visit www.WoodenAward.com.
