Cougar Men's Hoop Schedule Announced

PULLMAN, Wash. -- A season-opening trip to Alaska and an always rugged Pacific-10 slate highlight the Washington State 2003-04 men's basketball schedule as announced by Cougar Head Coach Dick Bennett, Wednesday.
WSU will begin the season against VMI, Nov. 20 in the first round of the BP Top of The World Classic in Fairbanks, Alaska. The Cougars will also play games Nov. 22 and Nov. 23 during the tournament. Other schools in the field include host Alaska Fairbanks, Binghamton, Idaho State, Rice, St. Mary's (Calif.) and Texas-San Antonio.
After a game at Southern Utah (Nov. 28), WSU opens its home season, Dec. 1 against IPFW. The Cougars will also host TCU (Dec. 6) and Idaho (Dec. 20) during non-conference action. WSU will play road games against Montana (Dec. 13), Fresno State (Dec. 22) and Gonzaga (Dec. 28) prior to the Pacific-10 portion of the schedule.
'The schedule was pretty much set prior to our arrival,' Bennett said. 'It appears to be a challenging one and most certainly one that will help us prepare for the Pac-10.'
Bennett added, 'My preference in the future is to add some games against schools from bigger conferences. I am very happy to be playing some games in Spokane this season.'
Those Spokane games will take place against UCLA (Jan. 8) and USC (Jan. 10). The Cougars will play at Stanford (Jan. 2) and California (Jan. 4) to tip-off the Pac-10 season and will follow the Spokane games with a trip to Oregon State (Jan. 15) and Oregon (Jan. 17).
WSU's first Pac-10 game in Pullman will be against Washington (Jan. 24). The Cougars conclude the first half of conference play hosting Arizona State (Jan. 29) and Arizona (Jan. 31).
The second road games will take place at UCLA (Feb. 5), USC (Feb. 7), Washington (Feb. 19), Arizona State (Feb. 26) and Arizona (Feb. 28). The Cougars' home games in the latter of the season will be against Oregon State (Feb. 12), Oregon (Feb. 14), Stanford (March 4) and California (March 6).
The Pac-10 Tournament takes place March 11-13 at the Staples Center in Los Angeles.
In addition to the regular season schedule, WSU will play a pair of exhibition games in Pullman. The games will be played Nov. 10 and Nov. 15.
