USC quarterback Matt Leinart threw 3 touchdown passes-a pair to wide receiver Keary Colbert and another to tight end Greg Guenther-to highlight a 75-play intrasquad scrimmage on Howard Jones Field on Saturday (Aug. 16).

Leinart was 16-of-22 for 168 yards. Colbert, who caught scoring passes of 19 and 18 yards, had 8 receptions for 108 yards, while freshman wide receiver Steve Smith added 6 catches for 61 yards. Guenther's TD catch was a 2-yarder.

Placekicker Ryan Killeen (37 yards) and Mario Danelo (23 yards) each had a field goal.

'This was a good, solid day's work,' said third-year USC head coach Pete Carroll. 'We tried to hammer the ball on the ground and Leinart again had a solid day, making some big throws.'

Trojan tailbacks ran for 101 yards on 34 carries, led by freshman Reggie Bush's 31 yards on 8 tries and Hershel Dennis' 29 yards on 4 rushes.

Linebacker Lofa Tatupu and defensive tackle Travis Tofi each had 6 tackles, while linebacker Salo Faraimo added 5. The defense came up with an interception and a fumble recovery.

No. 8-ranked USC opens its 2003 season on Aug. 30 at Auburn. The Trojans, No. 4 in the final 2002 AP poll after going 11-2 and sharing the Pac-10 championship, are riding an eight-game winning streak.
