Bruins Start the Year at No. 5 Nationally

LOS ANGELES - The UCLA women's soccer team debuted at No. 5 in the NSCAA/adidas 2003 Preseason Poll released Tuesday. Santa Clara, the national runner-up a year ago and the team UCLA opens up against on Aug. 29, is ranked No. 1.
In addition to Santa Clara, the Bruins are scheduled to face five other teams ranked among the preseason top-25, including No. 2 North Carolina, No. 4 Stanford, No. 13 Pepperdine, No. 16 California and No. 19 USC.
Also released Tuesday was the Pac-10 Preseason Coaches' Poll, where the Bruins were picked to finish second with four first-place votes. Defending Pac-10 Champion Stanford led the list with six first-place votes.
