Jeff Lee Wins Gold At Pan Am Games

USC senior Jeff Lee won a gold medal as part of the United States' 800m free relay while former Trojan Rodrigo Castro also won medals at the recently completed Pan Am Games in Santo Domingo, Dom.

Lee swam the third leg of America's 800m free relay, splitting a solid 1:50.34. The team of Ryan Lochte, Bryan Goldberg, Lee and Dan Ketchum won in 7:18.93, a Pan Am Games record.

Lee also took fourth in the 200m free.

Castro, competing for Brazil, won a bronze in the 200m free and swam on its silver-medal winning 800m free relay.

Another former Trojan, Josh Ilika, also competed for Mexico.

A pair of Trojans, J.D. Abercrombie and Trent Staley, will compete for the U.S. at the 2003 World University Games in Daegu, South Korea, which begin Thursday (Aug. 21). The swimming competition begins Sunday, Aug. 24 and runs through Aug. 30.

Abercrombie is scheduled to compete in the 50m and 100m fly. Staley is set to race in the 200m back. USC head assistant coach Larry Liebowitz is the coach of the men's team.
