Aug. 20, 2003

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - -

The Oregon State women's soccer team was picked to finish eighth this year in the Pacific-10 in a recent poll of conference coaches released by the Pac-10.

The Beavers received 25 points in the poll, and were picked to finish ahead of Arizona and Oregon. Points were awarded on the basis of 10 for a first-place vote, nine for a second, and so on.

NCAA runner-up Stanford was picked to finish first, totaling 77 points and six first-place votes; UCLA was picked second.

OSU was picked seventh in last year's poll and finished eighth in a year when the Pac-10 sent six teams to the NCAA Tournament - a number matched only by the Atlantic Coast Conference.

The Beavers open their season Aug. 29 at San Diego State.
