Aug. 30, 2003

TEMPE, Ariz. - Three second half goals by three different players propelled 14th-ranked Arizona State (1-0) to a 4-0 shutout win Friday night over the University of Hawai`i (0-1) in the season opener for both teams in the first match of the OHANA Hotels and Resorts No Ka Oi Tournament at Waipio Peninsula Soccer Stadium. In its eight-year history, ASU is now 6-1-1 in season-opening games.

The Sun Devils' Elizabeth Bogus supplied much of her team's offense, scoring on two goals on three shots. Bogus, the Pac-10's Freshman of the Year in 2002, scored her first goal by controlling a throw in and beating her defender to slot a left-footed goal with 5:11 on the clock. Bogus picked up where she left off last year in game-winning goals as she converted her eighth career, second all-time in ASU history.

After leading just 1-0 to begin the second period, Arizona State turned on the scoring punch when senior Patrice Feulner scored off a cross by freshman Levise Robertson just 2:55 into the period. With the tally, Feulner moved to second all-time in school history in goals (27) and points (66). Robertson, the Arizona state 5A/4A High School Player of the Year, was able to add her first career goal as a Sun Devil on a breakaway a little less than four minutes later. Bogus then finished the scoring off an assist by freshman Courtney Crane at 73:54.

'It was a great game and win to start off the season,' said head coach Ray Leone. 'It was an incredibly physical test and we'll see how we perform against Bowling Green with no rest.'

Junior Kelly Fitzgerald went the distance in goal, making four saves to post her seventh shutout of her career.

Up next, Arizona State will a have quick turn around and play Bowling Green on Saturday night at 7:00 p.m. (HST).
