Volleyball Sweeps Eastern Washington

TUCSON, Ariz.- The No.10-ranked Arizona volleyball team bounced back from its season-opening loss to Notre Dame on Friday with a 3-0 sweep over Eastern Washington at the Four Points Sheraton Pepperdine Classic in Malibu, Calif., on Saturday. Game scores were 30-22, 30-27, 30-22. The victory evened Arizona's record at 1-1 and helped UA avoid its first 0-2 start to a season since 1986.
The Wildcat offense regrouped from a poor outing on Friday to hit .269 in its first match on Saturday. Arizona posted just 16 errors against the Eagles on Saturday, due mostly to improved passing. The Wildcats, who committed 10 service reception errors against the Fighting Irish on Friday, posted just five against the Eagles on Saturday.
Individually, sophomore Kim Glass led the way again on offense for the Wildcats. The outside hitter tallied a match-high 15 kills on 32 swings with six errors for a .281 hitting percentage. She also finished with three service aces and six digs in the win.
Junior middle blocker Jolene Killough posted a career-high seven kills in the match while committing just one error for a .462 hitting percentage. She also led all players at the net with four total blocks.
Other standouts for Arizona were freshman Stephanie Butkus, who dished out a match-high 37 assists, and sophomores Bre Ladd and Jennifer Abernathy. Ladd finished with nine kills on .292 hitting, while Abernathy posted eight kills to go along with her team-high seven digs.
Eastern Washington's Megan Kitterman paced the Eagle attack with 10 kills on .471 hitting.
Arizona will return to action later tonight as the Wildcats will take on host school and No. 5-ranked Pepperdine at 7 p.m.
