Sept. 2, 2003
USC junior defensive tackle Mike Patterson was named Pac-10 Defensive Football Player of the Week for his performance at Auburn.
Patterson led the Trojan defensive line's dominating performance in the 23-0 shutout win at No. 6-ranked Auburn. He was credited with 7 tackles, including a tackle for loss. The Trojans' defense limited Auburn to 11 first downs, 43 yards rushing and 164 yards total offense. In addition, the defense forced 3 turnovers that led to 17 points and Auburn's deepestpenetration of the game was the USC 33-yard line.
Said Auburn coach Tommy Tuberville of the USC defensive line: '(Our quarterback) didn't have achance. He was running around for his life. You could just feel our offensive line didn't feel good about being able to block those guys.'
Other Pac-10 football honorees were California tailback Adimchinobe Echemandu (offense) and Washington State placekicker Drew Dunning (special teams).
