Tina Frimpong wins Pac-10 Women's Soccer Player of the Week

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. -- WASHINGTON junior forward Tina Frimpong has been named the Pac-10 Women's Soccer Player of the Week for Aug. 26-Sept. 1, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced today.
Frimpong, from Vancouver, Wash., scored all three goals in Washington's two matches last week, including a golden goal in the 16th minute of overtime that lifted the Huskies to a 2-1 upset of No. 18/No. 23 Maryland. The Huskies went 1-1-0 in their own Pac-10/ACC Challenge, defeating the Terrapins and falling to No. 1/No. 2 North Carolina 2-1 in overtime.
Frimpong also scored the opening goal against Maryland. Against the Tar Heels, her goal gave UW an early lead before succumbing 2-1. She was named Offensive MVP of the Pac-10/ACC Challenge and now ranks seventh in the Washington annals with 17 career goals.
Unranked in the preseason, the Huskies vaulted into the national polls this week and are ranked 10th by NSCAA/Adidas, 17th by Soccer America and 21st by Soccer Buzz.
This is Frimpong's first Pac-10 Player of the Week honor and Washington's 12th weekly honor all-time.
