Sept. 4, 2003

SEATTLE, Wash. - Washington women's tennis players Dea Sumantri and Claire Carter have earned ITA Preseason Rankings in both singles and doubles, the Intercollegiate Tennis Association announced Wednesday.

Sumantri, a junior, is ranked 19th in singles and Carter, a senior, checks in at No. 28, while as a duo the pair ranks 22nd in doubles. Both Huskies earned All-America honors last season, Sumantri in singles and Carter in doubles.

Sumantri finished 2003 with a national singles ranking of No. 29, and an overall record of 30-9, just two wins shy of tying the UW season record for wins in a season. Carter, UW's second three-time All-American, paired with graduated senior Darija Klaic to culminate the year with a final national doubles ranking of 10th and a 26-13 overall doubles mark.

The Huskies open the fall season at the All-American Championships, Oct. 4-12, in Los Angeles, Calif. ITA Team rankings will not be released until January.
