Volleyball Defeats Middle Tennessee State, 3-0

FORT WAYNE, Ind.- The Washington volleyball team (4-0) defeated Middle Tennessee State (3-2) on Friday in straight games to open the IPFW Tournament. The Huskies' 31-29, 30-20, 30-21 victory was their fourth in a row.

The teams played evenly with UW capturing a slight edge in kills (42-40) and hitting percentage (.245-.198), while the teams were balanced with 46 digs each.

Junior outside hitter Sanja Tomasevic (Uzice, Yugoslavia) led the Washington offense with 17 kills and three aces. Brie Hagerty (Defiance, Ohio) and Kara Bjorklund (Olympia, Wash.) also contributed to the Husky attack, recording eight and five kills, respectively.

Husky setter Courtney Thompson (Kent, Wash.) dished 30 assists while also picking up three aces, while Middle Tennessee's Megan Sumrell and Talayna Akrie shared setting duties, collecting 16 assists each.

Candace Lee (Eugene, Ore.) anchored Washington defense, posting 14 digs, with Hagerty chipping in seven.

The Huskies continue tournament action with a match versus Ohio (11 a.m. CT) and IPFW (7 p.m. CT) on Saturday.
