Sept. 7, 2003

SANTA CLARA, Calif. - No. 22 California tied No. 3 Santa Clara, 0-0, in double overtime Sunday afternoon at Buck Shaw Stadium. The Golden Bears' record moved to 1-0-2, while the Broncos stand at 2-0-2.

Cal has had remarkable success against the 2001 NCAA champion and 2002 NCAA runner-up, posting a 2-0-1 record against the Broncos over the last three seasons.

Redshirt sophomore Ashley Sulprizio came up big for Cal in goal, tying her career high of eight saves, including two in overtime. She previously posted eight saves in Cal's 1-1 tie at Saint Mary's last season.

Overall, the Broncos outshot the Bears, 14-5. Sophomore forward Liz Eisenberg led Cal with three shots, while sophomore forward Tracy Hamm and freshman forward Katie Ratican tallied one apiece.

In the first overtime, Eisenberg had a solid shot from 15 yards that just missed hitting the crossbar but sailed high. Each team had two shots in overtime.

Cal returns home to face Fresno State Sunday, Sept. 14, at 1 p.m.
