Sept. 9, 2003
WALNUT CREEK, Calif. -- OREGON STATE sophomore forward Tessa Baker has been named the Pac-10 Women's Soccer Player of the Week for Sept. 2-8, Commissioner Tom Hansenannounced today.
Baker, from Mission Viejo, Calif., scored three goals and tallied one assist in the Beavers' two wins over San Francisco and Idaho. In the 4-2 Idaho win, Baker scored consecutive goals within 11 minutes and narrowly missed a hat trick in the 80th minute as her 35-yard shot bounced off the crossbar, ground, and then back to the crossbar, before a save was made. In that same match, Baker tied a school record by recording 10 shots in the game.
In only four regular season games, Baker has already equaled her 2002 season total for points with seven, and is tied for the Pac-10 lead in total shots (17), points (7), and goals (3).
Oregon State is one of four Pac-10 teams that remains unbeaten, posting a 3-0-1 record against non-conference opponents, outscoring them by a count of 8-3.
This is Baker's first Pac-10 Player of the Week honor and Oregon State's 3rd weekly honor all-time.
