Bruin Cross Country Kicks off 2003 Season at Aztec Invitational

This Saturday, September 13, Coach Eric Peterson's Bruin men's 'B' team will compete at the Aztec Invitational, held at Balboa Park in San Diego, CA. The men's 8000m race will begin at 10:00 AM, following the women's 5K at 8:45 AM. In addition to the UCLA 'B' team, Biola, Concordia, Cal State San Marcos, No. 5 Northern Arizona, Scottsdale, Southern Utah, UC Irvine and UC San Diego will be competing.

Competing for the Bruins this weekend are sophomores Nick De Felice (Sacramento/ Jesuit), Martell Munguia (Sacramento/ Woodcreek) and Mohammed Qazi (W. Torrance/W. Torrance), and juniors Puneet Mahan (Norwalk/Norwalk), Reggie Oronoz (Pasadena/Loyola) and Nick Thornton (Vista/Rancho Buena Vista). And, making their UCLA debut are true freshmen Micky Cobrin (Buffalo Grove, IL/Stevenson), Craig Hall (Big Bear/Big Bear) and Austin Ramos (Sacramento/Jesuit) and redshirt freshman Chad Galbreath (Mammoth Lakes/Mammoth).

'Our training camp has been extremely successful. Our team is very young, but loaded with potential for success,' said Peterson. 'Chad Galbreath and Martell Munguia appear to be in the best shape of their lives and will add depth to our team when we run at full strength later in the season.'

'Additionally Austin Ramos and Micky Cobrin have looked strong during our preseason training and are positioned to make an immediate impact on our team's performance.'
