Former Cardinal Kira Ching Hired as Assistant Coach

STANFORD, Calif. - Kira Ching joins the Stanford athletics staff as an assistant softball coach for the upcoming season after a successful collegiate career with the Cardinal squad. She will work primarily with the infielders, while also serving as the first base coach and assisting with all other aspects of the program.

'Kira will be a great addition to our coaching staff,' head coach John Rittman said. 'She brings strong leadership capabilities, a familiarity with the program and an excellent work ethic. Her ability to work with both the offensive and defensive sides of the game will be an asset to the team.'

During her four-year tenure on the Farm, Ching recorded 44 doubles, 10 triples (an all-time Stanford record), 24 home runs and 152 RBI for a .281 career batting average. She started 232-of-233 games while helping her team to four-straight appearances in the NCAA Regional Championships and a berth into the 2001 NCAA Women's College World Series. Last season, Ching led Stanford in doubles (14), triples (4), total plate appearances (225) and fielding double plays (7) last season.

Ching, a San Lorenzo, Calif., native graduated with a bachelor's degree in American Studies in 2003 and is currently working toward a Master's degree in education.
