Sept. 12, 2003

SAN FRANCISCO - No. 21 California won its second straight game of the season tonight, beating San Francisco, 3-1, at Negoesco Stadium. The Golden Bears' record moved to 2-3 on the season.

Five games into the young season Cal is finally hitting its stride.

The Bears gave up an early goal in the 16th minute to Matt Languis. Sophomore goalkeeper Mike Oseguera, making his first start for Cal, allowed a rebound off a Josh Hansen shot. Languis put the ball in the net from eight yards out for a 1-0 Dons' advantage. That was all Oseguera would allow, finishing strong with three saves.

Cal stormed back before the half. In the 33rd minute, sophomore Tyson Wahl headed a Kyle Navarro pass into the net, tying the score, 1-1. In the 41st minute, freshman Eric Ebert took a pass from Pieter Berger and knocked the ball into the net from outside the box. Cal headed into the half with a 2-1 advantage, but the Bears weren't done yet.

Carl Acosta hooked up with Mike Munoz on a two on one, give and go in the 58th minute for a 3-1 lead. The goal was Acosta's fourth on the season, leading all Cal scorers.
