No. 18-ranked Volleyball Wins Ninth Match In A Row

MOSCOW, Idaho- The No. 18-ranked Washington volleyball team (9-0) defeated Northern Arizona (5-3) in straight games this evening to win the Idaho Tournament and tie the program's best start ever. The 30-18, 30-18, 30-18 victory, and ninth win of the year, equals the 1987 squads 9-0 start.
The Huskies out hit the Lumberjacks, .416-.134, and nearly doubled their kill output, 49-25, en route to its eighth three-game sweep of the season. Sophomore Jessica Veris (Manhattan Beach, Calif.) had her first career double-double with 10 kills and 12 digs, while Sanja Tomasevic (Uzice, Yugoslavia) led UW with 11 kills. Brie Hagerty (Defiance, Ohio) and Alexis McDonald (Long Beach, Calif.) logged nine kills apiece in the win.
Washington's serve kept NAU off balance as the Huskies tallied 12 aces on the night. Veris and Kaitlin Leck (Carson City, Nev.) led the way with three each.
McDonald anchored the UW defense with four blocks, while Veris added three blocks and Libba Lawrence (West Linn, Ore.) had seven digs.
Washington will make its home debut on Thursday, September 18, when it hosts Arizona State to open the Pac-10 season. The Huskies will also take on Arizona on September 19. Game times are slated for 7 p.m.
