UCLA Second In Men's Team Competition At Aztec Cross Country Invitational

Sept. 13, 2003

Eric Peterson's UCLA men's cross country squad, running a 'B' team on Saturday, placed second in the team competition at the 59th annual Aztec Invitational, hosted by San Diego State and held at Balboa Park in San Diego.

Bruin Men
In the men's competition, UCLA placed second with 61 points, behind team champion, No. 5 Northern Arizona (30). The Top Five teams were NAU (30), UCLA 'B' (61), CS San Marcos (86), Southern Utah (94) and UC Irvine (124).

UCLA was led by two runners in the Top 10, both true freshmen - Austin Ramos (Sacramento/Jesuit) placed fourth over the 8K course (26:02) and Micky Cobrin (Buffalo Grove, IL/Stevenson) finished eighth (26:10).

'This was a team of young runners, and we had strong performances from our two true freshman, Austin Ramos and Micky Cobrin,' said Peterson, in his fourth season coaching the Bruin men. 'Since we did not have all of our top runners here at the Aztec, I'm excited we can have young runners like Austin and Micky come into our program and make such an impact right away.'

Looking Ahead
The Bruin women, preseason ranked No. 24 in the U. S., and men's varsity teams will compete Sept. 20 in the third annual Big Wave Invitational at Honolulu, HI.
