No. 21 Cal Plays to 0-0 Draw with No. 6 Santa Clara
Sept. 14, 2003
Berkeley, Calif. - No. 21 California stretched its unbeaten streak to three games with a 0-0 draw against No. 6 Santa Clara. With the tie, the Bears won the Diadora Classic.
The game was an up and down contest with both teams having chances. The teams played an even first half. Cal relied heavily on the long ball up the field to generate an attack. The Bears' defense was again solid bottling up a powerful Santa Clara attack. There was more of the same in the second half and overtime, in a game which was very tight throughout.
In his second start in goal, sophomore Mike Oseguera was again solid. He was responsible for many of the long balls Cal played up the field. He also made seven saves, keeping a clean sheet.
Will Weatherly led Santa Clara with seven shots, while the Bears were led by Diadora Classic Tournament MVP Carl Acosta, who had two.
