Sept. 17, 2003

Corvallis, Ore. - Oregon State University men's basketball director of operations Ken Carrillo has been named an assistant coach at Northern Arizona University of the Big Sky Conference, NAU officials announced Wednesday.

Carrillo spent last season at OSU with first-year head coach Jay John. The 1986 University of Arizona graduate spent four years at St. Joseph's College in Rensselaer, Ind., prior to arriving in Corvallis.

'The entire staff appreciates the efforts of Ken while he was at Oregon State,' Beaver head coach Jay John said. 'This is a terrific opportunity for Ken to get back to a more full-time coaching situation.'

Carrillo began his coaching career at Jamestown Community College in New York as an assistant for John for the 1987-88 season. He succeeded John as the head coach from 1989-95, and led the program to a seven-year mark of 102-90. His 1992-93 club captured the Region 3 Division title and earned a trip to the National Junior College Tournament.

The 44-year-old also has coaching experience at Lewis-Clark State and at Mountain View High School in Tucson.
