Amin Nikfar to Compete at 2003 Asian Championships
Sept. 19, 2003
California shot putter Amin Nikfar will compete for Iran at the 2003 Asian Championships Tuesday, Sept. 23. The championships are being held in Manilla, Philippines.
Nikfar, an Iranian citizen, is capping a very successful summer with his appearance at the Asian Championships. In August, he competed at the Iranian National Championships where he won the shot with a top toss of 58-8.75. He then traveled with the Iranian national team to Hungary for a dual meet where he placed third in the shot put with a throw of 58-7.50.
Nikfar, a 2003 NCAA Track and Field Championships qualifier, broke the Iranian national shot put record with his NCAA regional toss of 61-7.75. That mark, which ranks fifth on Cal's all-time Top 10 list, was a lifetime best for Nikfar, who in 2002 had a previous personal record of 54-11.5.
A senior this year, Nikfar will compete for the Golden Bears in the 2004 season.
