Bruins Lead Inverness Invitational

The No.2 ranked UCLA men's golf team leads the Inverness Invitational by three shots entering the final round at Toledo, Ohio.

High winds from tropical storm Isabel sent scores flying, but the Bruins managed to carve out a three-shot lead after 36 holes. UCLA posted rounds of 294-300-594 and Illinois is second at 597 (301-296). Kansas State is third at 602, followed by Michigan State at 603.

Individually for the Bruins, John Merrick leads the team with a three-over par total of 143 (71-74) and is tied for second place. Steve Conway posted rounds of 73-74-147, five-over, and Travis Johnson was next at 151 (73-78). John Poucher recorded rounds of 77-75-152 and Roy Moon had scores of 84-77-162.

Merrick trails Michigan State's Ben Fox by one stroke. Fox posted a pair of 72s. Minnesota's Justin Smith is tied with Merrick at 145.
