Sept. 19, 2003
SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - -
The Oregon State women's soccer team suffered a 2-1 overtime defeat at the hands of California-Santa Barbara Friday night on a UCSB goal in the second minute of the extra session.
The Gauchos' (4-2-1) Randi Johns knocked in a shot from 25 yards off a Heather Allen pass on a free kick for the win at the 91 minute, 37 second mark.
OSU (3-3-1) fell behind 1-0 early when Johns set up Krystal Sandza for a score in the 13th minute.
'Santa Barbara deserved to win this one,' OSU coach Steve Fennah said. 'Our inexperience showed through tonight. We weren't as prepared as we should have been to play, and that falls on us as coaches and on the players.
'This was a learning experience for us. I thought we responded well in the second half and we scored a great goal to even the score and gain some momentum for a spell.'
Melissa Onstad made four saves in goal, as did her UCSB counterpart Jamie Considine. OSU had nine shots to UCSB's 10.
OSU plays No. 6 Pepperdine on Sunday.
