Men's Golf 11 Strokes Off Lead At NCAA Preview

Hot Springs, Va.-- The Arizona State men's golf team is in 12th after the first round of the NCAA Preview, 11 shots off the lead. Clemson shot an 18-hole total of seven-over-par 287 and leads the field at the 6,679-yard, par 70 Cascades Golf Course at the Homestead Resort in Hot Springs, Va. after Monday afternoon. Arizona State shot a 298.

The tournament was shortened to 36 holes when rain forced the cancellation of the second round of Monday. The tournament will conclude with 18 holes on Tuesday. Tee times will begin at 7:30 a.m. Live stats and full statistics are available at

ASU's Chez Reavie is tied for fourth with an even-par 70. Junior Pat Moore, competing in his first event of the year, shot a 5-over 75 and is tied for 36th. ASU is coming off an opening-season tournament win at the 20-team Tucker Intercollegiate on Sept. 12-13.

Clemson leads second place Augusta State by three strokes entering the final round. The Jaguars, the tournament's defending champion, shot 290 on Monday.

Kevin Silva of North Carolina has the individual lead, after shooting a two-under-par 68. He leads Gregg Jones of Clemson and Kyle Reifers of Wake Forest by one stroke. John Poucher of UCLA and Reavie are tied for fourth at even-par 70.

The tournament, hosted by Virginia Tech, features the top field in collegiate golf this fall. The top seven teams in the nation are competing in the event. The Homestead Resort,s Cascades Golf Course and Virginia Tech will host the 2004 NCAA Men's Division I Golf Championship June 1-4, 2004.
