Women's Cross Country Places Third At UC Riverside Invitational

Riverside, Calif. - The USC Womens Cross Country team had a strong showing at the UC Riverside Invitational on Saturday. The Women of Troy had four runners who finished near or under the 19-minute mark, leading them to a third place finish among collegiate teams.

Leading the Trojans was sophomore Kate Neeper (18:11)who finished 11th, followed by junior Harlye Maya (18:51) in 25th, sophomore Meghan Mainwaring (19:00) in 30th and freshman Kristen Berglas (19:02) in 31st.

USC totaled 132 points, putting them at a fourth place finish in a field of 14 teams. Team champion UC Santa Barbara had 34 points, while Trackwest Track Club placed second (57), and Cal State Northridge was third (108).

The team went out strong with five girls in a pack coming to the first mile mark at 5:45. They continued to hold on with a solid pace and finished with a strong kick.

Also running for the Trojans was senior Rae Stumbough (19:09), Sophomore Laura Strachan (19:18), junior Crystal Becker (19:30), freshman Christina Eads (19:32), Jessica Cuevas 20:25, Jazmin Tredway (22:29)

Next up for the Trojans is the UCSD Triton Invitational on October 11, 2003.
