Buddy Teevens Press Conference Quotes
Sept. 23, 2003
Stanford Head Coach Buddy Teevens Press Conference
On BYU game
'Last weekend's win was really a pleasing victory. I felt that we played really hard and with lots of emotion. We played well against the run and did a good job of moving the ball into scoring position.'
'Our guys are excited to move on to league play this weekend. Washington is one of our most impressive opponents. They have both a solid offense and defense. Washington is a great football team and is well deserving of its national ranking.'
'We should see a different type of defensive pressure from Washington compared to San Jose State and BYU. The Pac-10 schools, including us, tend to have more traditional defensive schemes that we have been practicing with since preseason began.'
On Washington quarterback Cody Pickett
'He is a very talented guy. Pickett throws well and has strong leadership abilities on the field. He will be difficult to contain, especially since their offensive line blocks so well.'
On Washington receiver Reggie Williams
'You just don't stop a guy like him. Williams is big, physical, fast and tough to catch. He is a gifted guy and will get his yards, which makes him fun to watch. We will need to mix our coverage to attempt to keep him contained.'
On 2003 season
'Our guys worked very hard in the off season and our 2-0 record has affirmed their work ethic. They are a cohesive group and although they get along, they also hold each other accountable. Everybody has a role on this team and they have proven to be a very unselfish group.'
On Stanford quarterback Trent Edwards
'Trent has been doing a great job seeing and identifying the defense. He has been making good decisions and getting rid of the ball when he needs to.'
'The BYU game was a huge learning experience and growth opportunity for Trent. The Cougars put lots of pressure on him and came from different angles. Trent was pretty wide-eyed at first, but settled right back in and made quick decisions with the ball.'
On Stanford running back Kenneth Tolon
'Tolon has been playing very hard and very physically. He sees things well and is good on critical yardage situations.'
On Stanford freshmen
'We have seven freshmen that we felt we needed to play this season. They help us to create more depth on the squad. Once we have decided to take off their redshirt season, they will see playing time and will be seeing even more action in the future. There are roles that each of these guys can play.'
Washington Head Coach Keith Gilbertson
On 2003 season
'We are 2-1 so far this season. We had a tough game against Ohio State, but I think we learned a lot from the game. We played fairly well against Indiana and Idaho. We have really been a second-half team in all three of our games. I feel that we have been running the ball better. We are not throwing the ball with as much efficiency as usual. Our defense has been getting better and better, giving us more options.'
'We haven't seen Stanford for a couple of years. Trent Edwards is an exciting new quarterback. Receiver Luke Powell is a tremendous athlete. He is a game-breaker kind of guy as a receiver and as a returner. Kenneth Tolon does a great job of producing yards on the offense. The Cardinal defense is extremely athletic. All around, Stanford has fine athletes and is a good team.'
