Washington's Frimpong Named Pac-10 Player of the Week

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. -- WASHINGTON junior forward Tina Frimpong has been named the Pac-10 Women's Soccer Player of the Week for Sept. 16-22, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced today.

Frimpong, from Vancouver, Wash., amassed four goals and an assist during two Husky/Nike Invitational games to collect the Offensive MVP award and lead Washington to the tournament championship. Frimpong registered both game-winning goals on the weekend. She netted two goals just 29 seconds apart and assisted on the other UW tally in the 3-1 victory over No. 6 Texas on Sept. 21. Frimpong scored a pair of goals in a 3-0 win over Fresno State on Sept. 19.

Frimpong paces Washington with eight goals, a figure that tops the seven goals she recorded in each of her first two seasons. She is now tied for fourth among all-time Huskies with 22 career goals. The winner of three straight games, Washington (5-1-2 overall) hosts defending NCAA Champion Portland Friday night.

This is Frimpong's second Pac-10 Player of the Week honor, her second of the 2003 season and Washington's 13th weekly honor all-time.
