Arizona Men's Tennis Opens Fall Season in Laguna Niguel, Calif.

LAGUNA NIGUEL, Calif. - The Arizona men's tennis team opened its fall tournament schedule Friday, September 26, while competing in the Laguna Niguel Futures. The Wildcats split their four matches, winning two and losing two matches in the first round.

Earning victories for Arizona was sophomore Roger Matalonga and senior Carl Hagman. Matalonga defeated Sven Swinnen of Oregon, 1-6, 6-1, 6-4. Hagman did not lose a point while beating Travis McClellan in straight sets, 6-0, 6-0.

Junior Colin O'Grady lost in two highly competitive sets, 7-5, 7-5 to Shane Laporte. Freshman Nate Cochrane lost in his first match as a Wildcat to Colin Joyner, 6-2, 7-5.

The Wildcats will be action again Saturday, competing in the Laguna Niguel (Calif.) Futures. First serve for the Wildcats is scheduled for noon.
