No. 18 Cal Falls, 1-0, to UC Irvine

Stanford, Calif. - No. 18 California lost, 1-0, today in the first game of the Stanford Invitational to UC Irvine. The loss drops the Bears record on the season to 3-4-1, while the Anteaters are now 3-5-0.

The lone goal of the game came in the 68th minute for the Anteaters. A David Yemane cross was met by the head of Sebastian Galmarini. The header beat sophomore goalkeeper Mike Oseguera, who was making his third start in goal for the Bears.

Oseguera made five saves on the day but his teammates could not overcome the second half goal. The Bears were led by forwards Mike Munoz and Pieter Berger. Both registered season highs with six and five shots, respectively. Overall, the Bears outshot the Anteaters 18-8, but UC Irvine goalkeeper, Ryan Mathy, kept the Anteaters in front by making six saves. The Bears had several chances late to tie the game, but were unable to do so.

Cal will finish up at the Stanford Invitational on Sunday when they take on No. 22 Fairleigh Dickinson at 12:00 noon.
