Oregon State Stymies Andrew Walter, ASU 45-17

CORVALLIS, Ore. (AP) - Brandon Browner intercepted three passes and JamesNewson had six catches for 124 yards and a touchdown as Oregon State beatArizona State 45-17 Saturday night in the Pac-10 opener for both teams.

Derek Anderson passed for two touchdowns and ran for another for OregonState (3-1). He was 15-of-26 for 246 yards in the Beavers' first victory overthe Sun Devils since 1993.

The Sun Devils (2-2) had four interceptions and lost two fumbles in losingfor the second straight week. Arizona State's offense failed to score last weekin a 21-2 loss to Iowa.

Oregon State's Steven Jackson, the Pac-10's leading rusher at 146.2 yardsper game, had 26 carries for 105 yards, his 10th consecutive regular-season100-yard game.

Browner, a 6-foot-4 freshman cornerback, picked off two of Andrew Walter'spasses and also intercepted one of Sam Keller's attempts.

Browner's second interception came off Walter early in the fourth quarter,setting up Jackson for a 15-yard touchdown run that made it 31-10. Minuteslater, the Beavers' Cole Clasen returned a punt 37 yards to the goal line,where he fumbled. Teammate Keller Christensen recovered the ball in the endzone to make it 38-10.

Anderson threw a 61-yard touchdown pass to Kenny Farley, and also teamedwith Newson on a 28-yard scoring play.

Walter was 17-of-42 for 231 yards and three interceptions. Hakim Hill ledArizona State with 115 yards rushing and 96 receiving.
